We have worked for the outdoor decorations at The Outlets Kitakyushu, designed to help visitors cope with the intense summer heat.
By blending the regional character of Kitakyushu with the shifting emotions of a summer day, we planned a refreshing, meandering experience featuring a three-theme “yagura” (tower).
Theme 1, “The Gateway to Summer,” marks the beginning of summer, where you can feel the sea breeze.
Wavy fabric reminiscent of Kyushu Port sways in the wind, inviting visitors into a summer scene.
Theme 2, “Summer Memories,” captures the moment when light and color overlap.
Colorful strips of paper catch the sunlight, reflecting a summer in as many different colors as there are passersby.
Theme 3, “Summer’s Afterglow,” features the lights that linger in the memory on the way home.
Providing shade during the day, the soft glow of lantern poles and paper lanterns at night quietly sees off visitors who have spent the day here.
In addition to the visual coolness provided by the gently swaying decorations, we incorporated a physical sensation of coolness through mist, creating a pleasant and comfortable experience in this summer outdoor space.
